(More customer reviews)This is a pretty cute show. It has excellent animation, a good story, and good music. My beef with it is that the show ends after a couple of episodes--it just stops.
This is an OVA, and the Sakura Wars TV series comes after it. And both come after the game.
I think I should have had a little knowledge of the games before I watched this, since it just picked up with the Demons. It didn't give ANY background on the Demons at all, which had me lost for the first episode or two. But as it went along I stopped worrying about how and why the Demons existed/were there and focused on the show itself.
The dubbing in both versions is top notch. I personally prefer the English version. Since the girls are from various countries, not just Japan, they cannot be expected to speak Japanese all that well, and without an accent.But in the English, we get to hear the girls in their "native" tongues and with "native" accents. What I mean is this: The French girl *sounds* French (and she even speaks in French when we first meet her). The Russian Maria has a definitive Russian accent, which comes across very well even though we never get to hear her speak in Russian. And the Chinese teenager talks with a Chinese accent, and also speaks in Chinese.
So, watch this. You won't regret doing so, but you might want to watch the TV series just to get a little better idea of what is going on. Or get (or at least see) the games.

(More customer reviews)My 5 & 6 year old daughters love the Hello Kitty movies, and this one most of all! We've rented it over and over, and finally decided to buy it. I can almost recite the words throughout the entire movie, but my daughters are glued to it each and every time the watch it. It's a sweet warm interpretation of classic tales.

(More customer reviews)This movie is pretty good for children, because it relates to fairytales but with Hello Kitty. The only reason I didn'y give it five stars, is because the graphics and characters are no where near as good as the movies made by the Sanrio Company; "Mom Loves Me After All," "Dream Theif," and "Santa's Missing Hat." The Sanrio-made movies are original and in my eyes, a lot better, but I still give this movie a thumb up.

Omishi Magical Theater: Risky Safety Vol. 1 Review

(More customer reviews)I took a chance with this DVD, the first ever release from AN Entertainment. I usually don't like cutsey shows, and I'd never heard of this one before, but my curiosity got the better of me. And so did the show! Risky Safety is a really charming little gem that anybody will love, regardless of whether you're an anime fan or not. The characterizations are just so appealing, and the story is really well written. The English dub is also surprisingly engaging and natural sounding, which really helps create a great atmosphere.
I was thrilled to discover that the DVD features a really attractive reversible cover and a great insert of really intelligent and informative liner notes that are also included as a bonus feature on the disc itself.
The episodes are only 10 minutes long, but they're a perfect length to keep you interested without bogging down the pace. This is seriously a surprisingly addictive little show. Don't let the look fool you into skipping over this one. If you like good anime, I bet you'll fall in love with Risky Safety the same way I did.

(More customer reviews)Most importantly, this is the first Hello Kitty DVD I've seen that actually features Japanese with English subtitles along with the English dub. This of course makes it the first Hello Kitty DVD I've bought as well. Amazon isn't listing this detail on their website...
The fairy tales are pretty true to their source considering how sanitized they are, I think. Also there is at least a taste of Eastern legends in the form of the Bamboo Princess. And of course high levels of Hello Kitty style cuteness.

Omishi Magical Theater: Risky Safety Vol. 2 Review

(More customer reviews)At the time of this writing, I own both the first and second DVDs in this set. As in the first DVD, the episodes in this DVD follow the everyday life of Moe, a typical Japanese schoolgirl, along with the four inch tall demon Risky and the four inch tall angel Safety that both occupy the same body. The content is still at a level that can best be appreciated by children, but adults can still enjoy watching the episodes.
The first DVD spent much of its time defining its characters and laying out the general situation. This second DVD, however, does not feel such constraints and therefore spends more time in telling stories. While some stories seem to simply follow the characters through their odd adventures, some of the other stories are told by Risky and Safety, and still others are told in unconventional ways. The episodes that talk about the origins of Risky and Safety are quite humorous in that they somehow combine an ancient Japanese legend with a satire of anime space sagas such as Gundam and Legends of Galactic Heroes. Another odd episode tells a story about Risky, Moe, and the people in Moe's life in a silent movie format.
Overall, this is good light entertainment for the entire family, although still better anime movies are available.
