It Might Get Loud (2008) Review

Caught this film yesterday and all I can say is wow. If you like music, guitars or any combination of the two catch this one on the big screen. Then you can easily decide if you need to add this dvd to your music archives. The progression of stories and how they are told is excellent, as well as the music presented. [...]
I came here yesterday after getting home from the matinee to see if there might be a "soundtrack" available to accompany this movie. There's probably enough material here (Link Wray, Son House etc.) to make a sweet multi-disc collection. It may seem like an odd combination of guitar players, but all three are well represented and there are too many highlights to mention. Seeing these guys playing bottleneck slide guitar together on "In My Time Of Dying" is worth the price of admission by itself. Seeing this film was a joyful experience for me and my heart does a little happy dance just thinking about it.

Heart: Dreamboat Annie Live (2007) Review

Heart's debut album is still my favorite of all their recordings, and this concert of the album being performed in it's entirety is pure magic from start to finish. Dreamboat Annie was always their most psychedelic and their most organic feeling album. Now Heart bring these wonderful, poetic songs to life again and also showcase how far they've came as musicians by enhancing on their own brand of rock they first created 30 years ago, especialy on "Sing Child," which one might call this concert's highlight as the violin section they included gives this updated live version a Dave Matthews Band kind of groove and leading into Ann Wilson's amazing flute solo very reminiscent of Jethro Tull. One might also call the highlight of this show taking place during the encore instead, in which Heart pay tribute to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and The Who, and they play these cover versions of their influences with such craft and passion that they make these classic tunes feel like their own. You don't even necessarily have to be a big Heart fan to enjoy this show. Quite simply, if you're a lover of classic rock in general, then you will love this concert.

Led by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, Heart broke down barriers and redefined what it meant to be a rock star. Now, on the first release in the new LegendaryAlbums Live series, they revisit their very first triumph, live on stage, in front of an ecstatic audience. Thrill as they play their legendary debut album Dreamboat Annie live for the first time ever. The band tears into their hits "Crazy On You" and "Magic Man" and covers classics by Led Zeppelin, The Who and Pink Floyd, all of which inspired them as they were writing and recording Dreamboat Annie. Heart's first-ever live DVD, formatted to 16:9 and featuring a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio mix, and loaded with interviews and other special features.
