Hey Cinderella (1970) Review

Hey Cinderella (1970)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The one and only Jim Henson filters the iconic tale of Cinderella through his decidedly unique vision in this charming family film. Besides the traditional poor-girl snags a charming prince plot we also have talking frogs, purple monsters, dishwashing dogs and a fairy godmother whose spells make things completely disappear more often than not.
The familar plot has sweet, pretty Cinderella meeting her Prince in the Royal Garden for the first time while she is tramping through the mud (her stepmother has ordered her to get the kitchen floor dirty before she scrubs it) and promptly falls for him, even though she thinks he's a gardener ( she doesn't recognize him from his picture on the money). The gently loopy plot roughly follows its predictable path to the end , with the highlight being the masked ball where a huge, radish-loving monster waltzes by the startled King ( who observes that next time the invitations will have to be more specific). The King, who is a Muppet, gets the best lines in the film (such as when his distressed son asks if he will get any say in his marriage and the King retorts "sure you do, just not the final say") and is a truly inspired creation, and the movie is a fine addition to the Muppet canon.
If you enjoy "Hey Cinderella" you should also check out the terrific Muppet take on "The Frog Princess", which makes a delightful companion to this cute family film.

This video is a great sing-a-long for all ages. I've been searching for this video for years on line. My son who has autism and is non-verbal loves this video and his old copy has had it from so much use. Please re-release this great Kernit the frog sing-a-long video so that all children can enjoy the magic of music at home. I don't understand why these videos disappear from the stores, surely they will sell.It is so hard finding good, clean videos anymore and this being such a classic from the muppets who are still very popular. I hope someone reads this and can offer this great muppet sing-a-long to the public to order as soon as possible.THANK YOU ! Sincerely Judy Keller from Ohio.

The Frog Prince (1993) Review

The Frog Prince (1993)

What a mountain of talent! Jim Henson continued his legendary roll with a charming made-for-TV version of "The Frog Prince". Like the equally wonderful "Hey Cinderella!" the plot more of less follows the classic fairy tale, but only the Muppets would have a plot hinge on a line like "Break the hall in the candle of her brain!".
Kermit guides us through the story as we meet the lovely Princess Lenora, just turned nineteen, and everything a beautiful Princess should be: Perfect complexion, flaxen hair, kind disposition, and wealth galore. There's only one problem: She only speaks backwards, and no one in the kingdom can understand a word she says. She wasn't always that way, someone's obviously been up to devious tricks, but who? It couldn't possibly be the hideous crone who claims to be the King's sister, could it?
Enter Robin the Frog, who claims to really be Robin the Brave, a prince under an enchantment. He recognizes the old crone; it's the same woman who turned him into a frog. From there it's all a series of twists and misunderstandings, falling in love and daring escapes until at last we come to the classic fairy tale ending.
What makes these Muppet tales so fun is the level of humor that appeals to kids and adults alike, such as the hilarious lullaby for a monster and the withering sarcasm of "Aunt Taminilla". If you like the Muppets I can't recommend "The Frog Prince" enough, and along with its counter point "Hey Cinderella!" the show represents what is missing in much of children's programming today. That's what DVD and video are for, right?
GRADE: A
(And if you enjoy this, check out Henson's little-known fairy tale show "Storyteller". It's even better.)

Muppet Show - Monster Laughs with Vincent Price (1976) Review

Muppet Show - Monster Laughs with Vincent Price (1976)

I saw this episode when it originally aired in the states. Although Vincent Price does appear, the real guest for this one was Alice Cooper. Setting aside the shock-effect of his concerts, Alice and crew went for truly monster-laughs. Using Alice's "Welcome to My Nightmare" to set the mood, Jim Henson and company had the perfect opportunity to go wild with the camp-scare monsters. This must be the most fun episode of the Muppet Show ever done. Alice Cooper fans have been tracking this one down wherever possible. When it's available again, don't miss it! When my son first watched Muppets on Wheels he fell in love with it. The video taught him the names of car parts and the names of all types of trucks. We constantly sing those wonderful catchy songs. Even my mom has memorized all the songs. I would recommend all children to see this wonderful video.

Muppet Sing Alongs: Billy Bunny's Animal Songs (1993) Review

I first saw this video about 9 years ago when my mother was a nanny for a little boy who watched it incessantly. I recently saw something that reminded me of it and wanted to find it for my 2 year old. Needless to say, it wasn't an easy task. I did finally find it in the amazon.com marketplace and purchased it. It was everything I remembered with the fun songs and the hilarious characters. These are songs you don't mind having stuck in your head for a day or two and my 2 year old loves it too.
I recommend this for anyone who has a child who likes music and dancing and singing. They'll love it.

My 3-year-old wants to watch this one over and over. Lots of different kids of planes, but some of the songs are a little irritating, and the story line that is supposed to tie it all together is not often really related to the individual songs.

Muppet Classic Theater (1994) Review

Muppet Classic Theater (1994)

In this awesome video collection, the Muppets take turns at telling six spoofs of classic fairy tales. The six stories told are "The Three Little Pigs", "King Midas", "Rumplestiltskin", "The Boy Who Cried Wolf", "The Elves & The Shoemaker", and "The Emperor's New Clothes". This video is hilarious and during a couple of the stories I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. My favorite in the collection is "The Elves & The Shoemaker". A tape that everyone in the family is sure to enjoy. Gotta love the Muppets.
