Panasonic DVD-RV31K DVD Player, Black Review

Panasonic DVD-RV31K DVD Player, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The good?
- Superb picture and sound
- Plays everything: DVD, CD, VCD, XVCD, MP3, CD-R, CD-RW
- Supports MP3 CBR and VBR
- Quick loading mechanism
- Front panel (display and controls) is fairly complete
- Supports black level expansion
- Brightness, contrast, and color adjustments
- S-Video, component, optical, and subwoofer connections
- Icon based menu system is very polished

The bad?
- Feels cheap, especially the remote
- Cannot play SVCD or XSVCD
- No coax digital out
- Surround sound, dialogue and bass enhancers, and cinema mode are useless
- MP3 player has NO features

The MP3 player does not display filenames! Any directory structure that exists will get flattened. You'll get to know your songs by number... "1 of 122" or "24 of 122" etc. Programmed or random play would make things better, but unfortunately, those features are not supported during MP3 playback.
The bottom line?
If you watch DVDs most of the time and occasionally listen to MP3s, then the Panasonic RK31 is highly recommended!

Panasonic's DVD-RV31K DVD-video player delivers a combination of qualityvideo and special features usually found only in more expensive players, if atall. Among many other features, the DVD-RV31K offers MP3 playback, robustconnectivity, and an advanced version of Panasonic's simulated surround soundwith proprietary Bass Plus technology and a dedicated subwoofer output.
This unit's state-of-the-art component-video outputs allow for digital videotransmission to compatible video equipment. It also offers standardcomposite-video outputs and an S-video output. A built-in 27 MHz/10-bitdigital-to-analog video converter maximizes picture quality from these outputs, while brightness, color, and contrast controls let you fine-tune picturequality.
A digital-cinema mode illuminates the picture and fine-tunes color, even inlow-light scenes. Additional video features include one-touch cinema memory, freeze frame, frame advance, and black-level controls.
An optical digital-audio output channels a bit stream for DTS and Dolby Digitalsurround sound, fostering glorious home theater sound when decoded with anappropriate surround receiver.
Advanced Virtual Surround Sound simulates a surround effect using only your twofront speakers. Furthermore, the DVD-RV31K's dialogue enhancer pumps up thecenter-channel output to emphasize a movie's spoken audio. A 96 kHz/24-bitdigital-to-analog audio converter and dynamic-range compression (for late-nightviewing) complete the DVD-RV31K's robust audio arsenal.

Coby DVD-209 Ultra Compact DVD Player Review

Coby DVD-209 Ultra Compact DVD Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This pint-sized portable DVD player from Coby belies its compact form with a sleek, attractive design, a sharp, crisp image accessible through composite outputs, a full-functioned miniature remote and the ability to read and smoothly play virtually any disc format, including + and - RW DVDs,
So why, you may well wonder, have I given this ostensibly marvelous little device a rating of only one star? The answer is that sadly, it suffers from what is, for anyone with normal hearing, a fatal flaw: It is loud. I mean truly unbearably, irredeemably LOUD.
On playback, the motor revs up to whir at such blaring decibels that it actually drowns out any quiet scenes that you may be watching, and yields an interminable din that competes even with normal levels of volume. In other words, its sound is omnipresent and endlessly, hopelessly distracting, rendering the machine, for this user at least, completely useless.
If larger DVD players, as well as compact CD players of the same size, don't generate this kind of noise, then there's really no excuse for the DVD-209 to be doing it, other than just plain poor engineering design.
What a waste -- of both a good idea for a compact DVD player -- and my money.

Cables Unlimited SPK-9100 900MHz Wireless Headphones Review

Cables Unlimited SPK-9100 900MHz Wireless Headphones
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I didn't expect much when I ordered these. I needed wireless headphones so I didn't wake up my girlfriend while I watched TV late at night. These had a rebate when I ordered them and were the lowest price so I bought them.
Turns out they are great quality for the price. Great range as I can walk into the kitchen several rooms away from my bedroom with the headphones on and still listen to my show. Great fabric on the ear pieces so they don't buildup heat or collect moisture. They recharge when you set them in the holder and even come with nimh batteries.
The headphones are a bit bulkier that what I was originally looking for, but they're light and don't get in the way. They have a clear sound. I'm really happy with my purchase. Thanks Amazon!

Yamaha YST-SW315 10-Inch Digital Pro Series Subwoofer (Black) Review

Yamaha YST-SW315 10-Inch Digital Pro Series Subwoofer (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I picked up the Sony 8" (SA-WM250 100-Watt) Active Subwoofer recently, and it's quite nice (especially the price at under $100.00). But this smaller system can't hold a candle to the Yahama. This 10" system pumps out clean, crisp base and its cut-off option allows the user to limit the higher frequency response of the sub-woofer (and let your mid-range speakers do the job). The result - a pretty massive, well defined bottom that can be as subtle or as "in your face" as you like it and which will nicely compliment just about any existing audio/visual system.
Because I use a pair of smaller AAD speakers, I keep the volume level for the subwoofer at below 50%, but the frequency cut-off a bit higher (110 hz out of max 140hz) for a nicely balanced, very full sound. Another nice feature is a bass button selection for either (i) music, or (ii) movies. The latter provides maximum bass response - suitable for achieving something similar to what you get in movie theatres - the rumbling bass that lodges in your stomach. The former, music option, is ideal and very complimentary to my existing stereo arrangement.
If you're unhappy with the response of your shelf speakers (want more oomph?), you'll love this Yamaha subwoofer. It'll add depth to your existing system, and add real luster to your audio-video setup. I recently re-watched "The Two Towers" on DVD using the Yahama - the experience was truly like a return to the theatre.

Yamaha's YST-SW315 offers 250 high-efficiency watts--enough power to deliver shattering, movie-theater-like bass effects. Full enjoyment of Dolby Digital and DTS surround sources requires deep, clear bass. This is especially true with 5.1- and 6.1-channel sound, because the ".1" channel is dedicated to the bass frequencies. That means you not only need a subwoofer, but a high-power subwoofer capable of handling extremely low frequencies. The YST-SW315's down-firing 10-inch driver translates power into clean bass sound, and the YST-SW315 boasts a frequency response of 20 to 160 Hz (-10 dB at the extremes of the range). The YST-SW315 delivers high power at deep bass frequencies, with excellent stability and low power consumption. This is made possible by the sub's highly efficient PWM (pulse-wave modulation) digital-drive power amplifier. The amplifier achieves superior conversion efficiency by minimizing power loss from the power transistors. It delivers stable audio power while minimizing AC power consumption and heat production. As it requires no output filter coil, it's extremely quiet with low distortion.Yamaha's patented Advanced Active Servo Technology (Advanced YST) generates incredible bass from small speaker enclosures. This system uses negative-impedance feedback in the amp and a Helmholtz resonator in the speaker to provide strong and accurate bass.QD-Bass (Quatre Dispersion Bass) technology uses a down-firing driver with square, pyramid-shaped reflective plates to radiate sound efficiently in four horizontal directions. The reflective plates (not used in other brands' down-firing subwoofers) negate any effects caused by the floor surface and reduce resonance between sound waves reflected from the floor and the unit. Most other systems use circular cones, but the YST-SW315 avoids firing sound into the legs of the cabinet by radiating in four directions. Changing the height of the pyramid varies the acoustic load, permitting relatively simple high-cut adjustment and improving bandpass properties. QD-Bass also grants greater freedom of placement, since the sound radiates with equal effectiveness in all directions. The user-adjustable, continuously variable high-cut filter sets the highest frequency the subwoofer will deliver. It can be set anywhere from 40 to 140 Hz. For instance, if the filter is set at 75 Hz, only frequencies 75 Hz or below will be delivered by the subwoofer. This allows the sub's output to be matched to the lowest reproducible frequency of other speakers in the system and the room's acoustics for a seamless presentation. The rotary volume control permits the perfect matching of the sub's output to the overall volume of the system. The YST-SW315 has a signal-sensing circuit. When the subwoofer detects an audio signal, it turns its power on. When it senses no signal for several minutes, it shuts itself off.Yamaha's BASS (Bass Action Selector Switch) tailors the sub's output for video or music at the touch of a switch. Two sets of inputs let the sub accept either line- or speaker-level inputs, while a handy phase normal/reverse switch makes it easy to phase the subwoofer with the other speakers in your system.Three-way speaker terminals accept banana plug and a variety of other connectors, as well as speaker wire, and the YST-SW315's thick, rigid MDF cabinet reduces vibrations and resonance. The speaker's handsome black-ash finish blends in with room decor and complements many furnishing styles, and it's magnetically shielded so you can place it near a TV or computer monitor without degrading the picture. What's in the Box Subwoofer, user's manual, and warranty information.

NBOX TV Media Player - Supports SD/USB Drive/USB External Hard Drive - Plays DIVX/AVI/RMVB/RM/XVID/MPG Review

NBOX TV Media Player - Supports SD/USB Drive/USB External Hard Drive - Plays DIVX/AVI/RMVB/RM/XVID/MPG

When I attempted to setup my NBox Media Player, I discovered that the included power cord would not fit. I applied firm pressure, and even tried to twist it into place. Nothing worked. I boxed it back up to get a replacement but learned that Amazon does not offer a replacement on this product since it is sold through a third party. They only offer a refund. I sent them an e-mail to see if I could just get a replacement cord. They again said I would have to send the entire thing back, get a refund, and reorder it. I found no way to contact the company directly to see if I could just get the correct cord.
Thankfully, I'm a huge techno geek, and after searching my other various electronic gadgets, I found a cord that was not only the right voltage, but also the right size.
Now the review- I connected everything and was up and running in seconds. The interface is very user friendly. The menus were very easy to navigate and easy on the eyes. I had no problems accessing music, video, or picture data off my flash drives, memory card, or portable 320GB FreeAgent hard drive. I did have a few MP4 files that would not play, but XVID, MP3, and AVI all played well. The video and audio quality was good. I, however, could not access any of the video files on my 1TB external hard drive. The NBox locked up for a few minutes while accessing the drive. When it finally came up with a file list, it would still not access the files.
In summary- If you're looking for a quick way to access most of your video and audio files off a flash drive or memory card, NBox does the job. May not work with a very high capacity drive. I took one star off for the power cord mix-up.

New LCD Projector HDMI/PC/TV/AV/VGA/S-Video for Office and Home Review

New LCD Projector HDMI/PC/TV/AV/VGA/S-Video for Office and Home
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had the SV-100H Projector for a couple of weeks now. I actually bought it on ebay, but the price is similar to the one on Amazon. First off, I should announce that the SV-100H is NOT a HD projector! It is HD compatible, which means that it can 'recognize' a HD signal, and play the picture. The native resolution is 800x600 and it will not actually make any image at a higher resolution than 800x600, but it will downscale higher resolutions to be played. You can notice the pixels, which does bother some people, but the pixels are not TOO bad.
That being said, the image quality is GREAT for this price!! NATIVE RESOLUTION IS NOT EVERYTHING, I used to have a name brand projector with 1024x768 native resolution, and I promise you that the SV-100H has WAY better image quality! The HDMI connector counts for a lot on this baby, when you plug in the HDMI, image quality is terrific.
Now, this is obviously one of those cheap Asian knock-off products, but among the cheap Asian knock-off projectors, this is probably the best. I looked into it, and most of the others are only 640x480 native resolution, while this one is 800x600.
I bought this projector instead of an flat screen HDTV (in the same price range) and I made the right choice. The image quality on this projector -clearly- blows an old tube TV out of the water. The picture is not as good as a flat screen HDTV, but it's not much worse either, and for this price you can not get a HDTV bigger than 25 inches. The projector can make HUGE pictures easily.
This projector is a lot of fun, you can plug just about anything in to it, and it's very light weight. I can easily stuff it into my little backpack and take it to my friends house, it plugs in with a simple power cable that a typical computer uses. The projector is very cheaply made, thin plastic, cheap parts, it's somewhat fragile, but keep in mind that you generally don't touch a projector. I personally am grateful for it being so cheaply made, because that makes it cheap to buy, I couldn't care less if it were made of wood shavings. The picture is awesome and it is very simple to use. I don't know if you can buy replacement bulbs here on Amazon, but the ebay seller 'bluefly' sells bulbs upon request for $30 which is an amazing price considering the lamp life. Other projector bulbs can sell for the price of this whole projector! In the range of $150 to $250, and they often have shorter reported lamp lifespan.
I have my SV-100H projector connected via HDMI to my Playstation 3, and via AV cable to my digital TV converter, and it's so much fun to go in my room and be able to play and watch TV on my entire wall. It's got a pretty quick start up time, but is a bit slow to cool off.
It is sort of a noisy projector, it's got a couple big fans in it, and they spin very hard to keep the projector cool. However, it also has an internal speaker, and that speaker can get impressively loud. I've opted to use the internal speaker for watching TV daily and am very happy with the audio.
My conclusion, it's a cheap projector, it's cheaply built, but it's good where it counts. It is by no means a good projector in comparison to true HD projectors, but it is sold at a price that will make you feel proud for buying it. This is not a projector for very picky people, but for a family, your kids will flip out at being able to watch movies on the whole wall. Would be an awesome gift for teens, gamers, the image is good enough to spot far away targets in-game. I imagine it would be great for presentations. To get a name brand projector that gives you compatibility and image quality like this one, you would be looking at spending over $800
Personally I am VERY happy with my purchase of this projector!!!! I'm not too picky though.
EDIT:
Well I've been using the projector for a little over two weeks now, about 20 hours of run time on the bulb, and the bulb just burnt out. The person I bought it from on ebay says "I would be happy to send a new bulb for free, just pay shipping. $30" When they told me the bulb itself would be $30 last time I asked. Jerks.
I won't change my star rating, because I still really liked the projector..

I just bought this at Costco.
It wasn't hard to set up but there is no display on the actual unit so you can't quickly see how much time you've watched, the buttons on the remote are hard to press and don't always take and there is no manual in the box (you need to go online and download a 28 page manual). In addition, I'm not savvy enough to be able to reprogram it every time it loses Internet connectivity so it's going back.

Coby TFDVD7009 7-Inch Portable DVD/CD/MP3 Player (Black) Review

Coby TFDVD7009 7-Inch Portable DVD/CD/MP3 Player (Black)
Average Reviews:

This is a great compact and light dvd player for the price. I was in the market for an inexpensive portable dvd player for my 2-year-old son. I also have the TFDVD7008, but my son kept touching the inside of the player that dvds don't play properly anymore. However, because I liked it so much, I decided to buy another one. I can't comment on all the technical features because I basically use it to play my son's favorite dvds, but I like that it's small, compact, and light. I can fit it in my bag and take it with me wherever I go. The battery life is about 4 hours, which is plenty! I like that it has a rubber grip on the bottom, so the player doesn't slide around on a table (the 7008 didn't have that). I only wish there was a menu button on the player itself and not just on the remote because I don't really use the remote. I also wish there was a way to store the remote in the player itself. That would be nice. Other than that, I really like this dvd player.
