No noisy fans. Also the frame is made of heavy duty steel. This would hold up to very strong winds. The screen was also much better than most blow ups I have seen. The screen has a slight reflection and black backing. The picture showed up great even before it was dark. I will be recommending this to all my friends.

(More customer reviews)I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the picture from this projector. Being on the low-end price-wise I didn't expect the high-quality picture that it projected. I bought it for my 15-year old daughter to have movie parties with. It is also very simple to operate. The only downfall is that it only came with a cable to connect to a PC, but not a cable to connect to a DVD player (S-video to RCA) I had to order that separately since the stores (Radio Shack & Circuit City) do not carry it in stock.

NEC VT47 Digital Video Projector Review

(More customer reviews)This past Thanksgiving, after much prayer, and begging to my wife I was finally able to complete my home theater. I have had the opportunity to try out many projectors through the years, always hoping one day I would find the perfect one: Good Contrast and resolution with multi-capabilities such as computer, s-video, all the way down to RCA plug-ins. Also it had to have huge "bang-for-the-buck" factors. I am not disappointed!
This Projector by NEC was surprising in many ways. They packed it with a cool, very simplified, remote. Plus, they threw in an extra computer cable so you can plug it right in. Nice.
It is very light at 7lbs and the brightness of the 1500 ansi lumens soaks the screen to display vividly sharp details. I have tried out many films so far to test its quality: Fast and the Furious, Nemo, A Bugs life plus others. None had any problems. Computer animated films sparkle on this machine.
There is a fan within the projector to keep down the temp. Most people decide on purchasing depending on the loudness of the fan alone. Gratefully, it is amazingly quiet. Once you turn it off it blows in high gear for about ten seconds then its done.
Here's the catch: You have to want a big picture. The projector does come with an easy zoom function to control picture size, but the kicker is, with it being fifteen feet away from the screen the smallest the image can get is 6ft wide / 5ft tall. Many may worry about dvd artifacting or pixelization at that size, but again, no worries. At 15 feet the image could easily be 10 feet across if I so choose. Nice, once more.
If your deciding on a projector that has vivid color detail and large picture capabilities, even with the lights on, look no further. Like I said, I have tested many through the years, some costing five to ten thousand dollars, you will find very little difference between them and this power packed machine. Hats off to NEC. ~SAOS~

Vuzix iWear AV920 - Head mounted display - portable - headphone Review

(More customer reviews)These appear to be the Vuzix AV920s. If so, you can easily get them to work with the Cowon A2 player (and Zen Vision M, and Archos players) with the "Creative Labs Zen-M Video Cable for AV230, AV920 or DV920" sold on Vuzix's website.
I've been using them for a couple of weeks with a Cowon A2 and I am impressed. The screen resolution is considerably better than comparably priced competing products. Also, you can use your own headphones if you want, quite easily. That said, glasses like these aren't a substitute for a big plasma display - they're a way to watch tv on your back, or on a train, or wherever you can't take the plasma display with you. ;)

(More customer reviews)I searched and compared projectors for a long time before settling on this one. I need a highly portable, easily set-up, projector for slideshows, movies, presentations, and the occasional killer gaming session. I'm not using it for home theatre or anything high-tech. So far I'm very satisfied. It's easy to set up with basic electronic A/V knowledge. It's less confusing than other projectors I've worked with, and the A/V mute and instant on/off are particularly handy. The remote does just about everything too. My big problem is that it has USB connectivity to a computer, Plug-n-play!!, but only for PCs! As a Mac user I was frustrated that it did not say ANYTHING about this in the specs until I opened the box. Especially frustrating is that earlier models seemed to have good connectivity with Macs, so I don't know what happened. However, no biggie because it still connects with the component cable, and even to my iPod with the help of the iPod A/V cable. All-in-all a good purchase, especially for the price.

(More customer reviews)I recently purchased a new Optoma EP721 projector on the recommendation of a colleague. It was very light weight and easily carried to my lectures. My colleague had given his Optoma projector to his son and purchase another brand projector to replace it. He found the other projector was twice the weight and did not notice any discernible difference in the images, so he purchased another Optoma projector. In the first test-run at a venue, I was extremely impressed with the brightness of the 2200-Lumens lamp, which was perfect for my presentations. The lecture venue was large enough to seat 60 guests for a luncheon.
I had read in other reviews that the yellow colors were not as bright as with some other brands. While I found this to be true, it was minimal and not obvious to the audience. The wonderful feature about digital presentations, is that one can compensate for color during the editing process of the images using software, such as Photoshop.
The set-up process was easily accomplished after I reviewed the instructions. After one try, I was confident that I could rely upon the Optoma projector integrated with my MAC laptop. Lastly, the Optoma EP 721 was extremely favorably priced and was about half the cost of the competition. As an example of my satisfaction with this projector, I purchased a second one for the organization that I chaired.

Dell 2300MP Projector with 2300 Lumens, XGA Resolution Review

(More customer reviews)After having access to various projectors through employers for several years, I decided to purchase the 2300MP for both home entertainment and business use. In my current setup, I have the projector connected to a TimeWarner DVR (SA 8300HD). Audio is run from the DVR to a stereo computer speaker and subwoofer system (see review Dell Champagne speakers). It is a quite impressive arrangement. At first glance, many viewers' draws drop when they first see the screen, which is merely projected on a beige painted wall.
With a throw of approximately 11 feet, it creates a screen 7'2" across. The formula for the maximum screen size is: diagonal = 0.618*dist + 0.0192. However, this is somewhat misleading as the distance changes with the incident angle (think Pythagorean Theorem). Yet, if any single characteristic of projectors can be considered a handicap, it would be the limitations imposed by the lens distance to the screen.
Distance also affects brightness as there is less light intensity per square area. However, brightness is not a problem with this projector. One of key selling parameters of DLP projectors is the number of lumens, which describes the total visible light output. Low-end portable projectors are generally under 1000 lumens. At 2300 lumens, this projector is bright enough to hold presentations in a daylight-filled room. In fact, the projector is so bright that I have to navigate through the sluggish management menus to reduce brightness when there are scenes with snow-filled landscapes.
While the projector comes with a remote to operate the management controls, the whole system of operating the projector is a big cumbersome. This problem is compounded when the projector is mounted on the ceiling. In certain instances, it is difficult to determine if the projector is on. The small green status LED's are difficult to see from a distance. As a testament the quietness of the fan, it is barely audible and completely unnoticeable when there is any background noise. Unfortunately, in about one out of 25 times, the projector just doesn't start properly. This sometimes necessitates a hard kill by unplugging the unit. Some of these difficulties may present a difficulty for the non-technical user.
Having a separate tuner (owned and maintained by Time Warner) and projection device is a very, very clean setup. This separation allows for added flexibility as evolving video input options that are separate and distinct from the projection device. Despite the distance limitations, the setup is a great space saver. Moreover, the portability is incredible as it only weighs 4.9 pounds. In my case, the [pre-existing] wall is the viewing surface so there additional hardware such as screen.
Before I purchased this projector, purveyors of competing products warned me about the rainbow effect which appears on certain images when displayed via a DLP projector. The rainbow effect is a strange artifact that only some viewers can see. Basically, prismatic colors form around certain objects with parallel lines such as a pinstripe shirt. In the first couple of weeks I occasionally saw the effect. However, I have not seen it in the past several months. In general, the picture is fantastic. It appears that most anomalies exist in the video source because DVD's appear crisper than recorded DVR movies, which in turn appear better than live broadcast television. With a great picture, portability and tremendous flexibility, the Dell 2300mp represents the future of entertainment.

(More customer reviews)There is one major thing that you need to do if you buy this product and that is upgrade to the latest firmware on the infocus website. The firmware that comes with it isn't nearly as good as the one they just released. Overall, for the money you can't go wrong with this projector. It has a decent resolution for a projector in the price range, and the 2200 lumens are more than enough. I keep mine on low power mode all the time and it still runs at 1700 lumens. There is nothing like watching movies on a 120' flat screen! I guess if there was a problem with this product it would be the noise. On low power mode it isn't really noticeable, but on high power, unless you have a movie with sound going, you are going to notice it. I personally love how much they have come down in price. This just last year would have cost me over 1200 dollars easy and now they're finally affordable. I recommend this product.

(More customer reviews)I have had this GT720 for about 3 weeks now. It is AMAZING! If you are considering buying it, just do so because I seriously doubt you will regret it. Hooked up to it currently is an Xbox360, a Philips HTS6600 Home Theater, a WD TV Live Plus HD media player, and a Viewsonic Tablet G. I have all of this hooked up through an HDMI switch. I really have no other projectors to compare this one to - but I honestly do not need anything else to compare it to. I did a few weeks of research into projectors, but for the price - this is a great short throw! In the daytime, the picture is still clear. Obviously at night, it is mind-blowing. All my friends and girlfriend are unbelievably impressed. The short throw projects at 100"-110" from 7 feet away. Perfect for storage on the 2nd shelf of my coffee table. So like I said before if you are considering this projector 1) for the price, 2) for the quality, 3) for the short-throw, this is the one for you!!

(I'm only in my late 20's but it used to be overhead projectors :P)
I use this projector every week and it works great~!
Features that I liked:
- Easy to see labels to show which VGA belongs where and etc.
- You can turn the projector to sleep mode just simply by closing the lid, and when you open the lid again it shoots the screen real quick.
- It's sleek and good looking for a projector.
- Very quiet, I don't hear any annoying fan noise.
- Very simple to use.
- Great color! Love showing Movie Clips and Keynotes on them.
You can't go wrong with this projector, and I think it's the best one out there for this price range.

(More customer reviews)This was quite an upgrade for us. We replaced our Optoma HD70 with this projector. I tried the Optoma HD80 first (please read my review of that waste), but the placement limitations were so bad, I had to return it. We purchased this projector from Tweeter (sorry Amazon) for $3900.00.
After installing it last night, I played around with it a bit and fixed some display settings that were way out of control. For more on this and how to adjust your own, look up this projector on the projectorreviews website. Right out of the box the settings are horribly wrong, but with some slight adjustments, you can have a near perfect picture.
The projector itself has a number of great features including a mechanical lens for zoom, focus and vertical shift. Although I gave this projector 5 stars, there is still one area that needs improvement. Some kind of horizontal keystone would be a good thing, but it is such a small issue that it doesn't impact my evaluation.
There are ample inputs, but maybe 1 more HDMI would be great. It has 2, but this input is the way of the world now, and 3 would be better...but then I'd want 4...you get the idea.
The projector weight is 24.5 pounds. You may read different weights on different websites, but I weighed it myself and it is exactly 24.5 lbs. Just make sure you have a mount that is rated for at least 30 pounds that is installed correctly. This does not need to crash down on anyone's head at this weight.
Back to the performance...The colors are amazing one when calibrated correctly. We watched a New York Rangers game on MSGHD as our first test. The Rangers lost, but the projector scored a hat-trick! Blues were correct, white levels are near perfect, and the contrast ratio, thanks to the dynamic iris is stunning. Afterward, we played around with some Blu-Ray and HD-DVD at 1080p. Spiderman, Pirates 3, and Happy feet looked perfect. I can't stress enough that you need to recalibrate this projector to get a good picture. Sony should do a better job on giving you an accurate picture out of the box, but they just don't.
Lastly, the projector is almost perfectly silent. I could hear the PS3 and DirecTV HR20 fan much louder than the projector. Great job on this Sony!!
In closing, I would recommend this projector to anyone looking for a top-of-the-line-$5000-and-less unit. Shop it around though and get a good deal for yourself. Don't pay $5000 because you just don't have to. Enjoy!

ViewSonic’s PJD6210 XGA DLP 120Hz 3D Ready Projector Review

(More customer reviews)I recently took the plunge on a projector. I was actually originally going to get this projector initially but then the Acer H5360 and Optoma HD66 lured me with their 720 peeeez. However, upon many many talks with the wife, I decided to wait on a more expensive 3D PJ until the Blu-Ray 3D thang is all settled. For nearly $300 less than the Optoma HD66, I scored a Viewsonic 6210 at $420. As for the Acer, it is still unavailable here in the 'States as of writing this. Anyways, the projector is tiny and does max res of 1280x1024 (1024x768 native). It supports 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio.
Right off the bat, I felt the color was a bit muted, but the projector was insanely bright. I borrowed a HD20 Optoma for months and this rivals the brightness of that PJ. Picture clarity of the 6210 is what you would expect of a XGA projector. It's clear, but no 1080p. I played with the color and was satisfied but never undeniably impressed. It's passable (for my standards), but I think I need to do some more tweaking.
After a wrestle with an on-board GPU, I finally got the drivers to work for my 8800 GTS (thanks to Windows Update - nVidia installer flat out would not work). 3D Vision wizard was an absolute breeze. It recognized the monitor instantly. I tried some movie trailers (Bolt, Fly Me to the Moon) and they were EXTREMELY impressive. No ghosting, very clear.
I then tried Avatar the game. Blown away. I was used to playing on a 120hz CRT but playing on a DLP projector is just... better than I imagined. ZERO ghosting. I mean, zip, zilch, nada. The brightness dips heavily in 120hz mode, but you can make up for this for the most part in the number of options via the nVidia Control Panel, in-game settings, or PJ settings.
I hooked up my 360 to it with ease via the VGA cable that is available. It looked great, along with HD Netflix streaming. The PS3 was a different story. It's super easy and looks great when you have the right connectors, but I had to order the PS2/PS3 component cable first, and a VGA to component adapter which took forever to arrive (accidentally ordered from a Chinese seller on ebay for the adapter). Once its all hooked up it looks really good in 720p, but 1080p was too compressed for this PJ. Blu-Rays actually look pretty damn good too on my 88" screen. Definitely "HD" looking although the projector is technically a 1024x768 native image.

(More customer reviews)I was a little sceptical about getting this seeing how only one place locally sold it and seeing how it was so big, cheap and motorized all at the same time. The only other ones I could find like it would set me back at least $450. I bought this from a local store online and paid only $312 for it including expediated shipping and taxes. There was only 1 review I could find on this and it was good, just said minimal ripples as one of the only complaints. I pulled this monstrousity out of the box, had a little trouble mounting it, not due to the screen itself, but due to my wall and finding a stud. I just bought replacement stud screws and its hanging just fine. It lowers pretty slow, but that's not a problem but beware, this thing is huge. Much larger than I expected. The viewing size is right around 9 feet by 6 feet and the actual length of the base of the screen is every bit of 116-117 inches long, so keep that into consideration. I have a sony vplaw 15 set about 13 1/2 feet back and it uses up every inch of the screen and it is the most beautiful thing I've ever experienced. I'm very happy with this screen and don't think I could have landed a better deal, just wish it could have been bigger since my projector projects an amazing size from the distance that its set back at.

Panasonic PT-AX100U Home Cinema Projector Review

(More customer reviews)Everyone that sees the picture this projector gives wants one. You'd expect to pay much more for this quality. The picture still looks great with the lights on and blinds open. Given the adjustability of the projector and the abilty to handle ambient light, this will work in a lot of homes other projectors might not be right for. And it looks great even on an inexpensive screen (Da-Lite HD Model B).
The only negative thing is I know about right now is that with all projectors including the new dlp rear projector tvs is that the bulb has to be replaced every 2000 or so hours and they cost over $300 to replace. I just got my projector, so I don't know if the bulb will last its advertised lenght.
I'd be surprised if you weren't wowed by this projector.
UPDATE:
I have had problems with this projector. Already on my second one and am getting ready to send it away for more work.
Seems to be a reliability problem. The projector shuts off automatically after I turn it on..forcing me to wait 5 minutes to turn it back on. Also, and much worse, the projected image is starting to go blank every 5 minutes and the imput options appear..very annoying and you may miss key parts of whatewver you are watching.
Now, still under warranty, Panasonic is making me pay to ship the unit to Kansas(I'm in California) where they will work on it and say they will have it back to me in 7-10 days.
If you still want to buy this after reading this, make sure you get a good warranty.
My rating now would be much lower than 5 stars if Amazon would let me change it(they won't)
Second Update: Well my Iris has broken again! And now it is out of warranty! This is the third time I have had to return this product for repair! I think there should be a class action suit against these guys for not recalling a product that almost everyone is reporting problems with...will never buy a Panasonic product again.

Micro Professional Projector MPRO110 Review

(More customer reviews)If you are considering the 3M MPRO110, my recommendation is that you fully understand your use and purpose as well as the limited capabilities of this product before you buy it. It is definitely NOT a replacement for the typical portable projector by any measure. It certainly looks impressive and is a very compact unit. It will suit the specific needs of some but generally does not compare well with the capabilities of other portable projectors.
In my situation I was only looking for a personal unit to use in my office in a darkened environment with a white projector screen and a laptop/notebook computer to display Windows WMV video files and Apple Quicktime MOV video files. It appears that the MPRO110 may meet my very minimal requirements since I will be the only one using it as a study aid. The picture at maximum distance, projects large enough (nearly as large as my 61" Sony rear projection TV) in my case, which may justify the use of the MPRO110. However what is displayed is not equivalent or even close to the original display output because the brightness and sharpness of the image are not sufficient for most purposes.
The good, the bad, the ugly:
1. The MPRO110 cable for PC/laptop/notebook connectivity is way TOO short and in my opinion should be at least 3ft-4ft in length.
2. The MPRO110 unit really does needs a stand or tripod to rest on at sufficient height to allow the greatest distance 1800mm (71") around 6ft, in order to achieve maximum picture size and to justify its actual use.
3. The MPRO110 power connector cable should have been at the back because it seems to keep pulling the unit off balance because of the short length of the VGA cable despite its own ability to swivel around at the contact point. The cables tend to make it hard to keep the unit flat on a surface.
4. Brightness of the MPRO110 is only marginally acceptable in a darkened room although it is reasonable to expect better than what it projects.
5. MPRO110 focus is limited and I found the focus control range and use to be not very acceptable.
6. The on off button and the focus control are small and that's OK but the plastics lack tactile feel and a nicer button or control using some hardened rubberized material that a user can grip more easily would be much better.
7. To insert, charge and use the battery a small screw must be removed to take the cover off and this is not documented in the Operators Guide or Quick Start Guide.
8. I like the display compatibility and support all the way up to WXGA but would love to see it provide at least 1280 x 1024 support or greater in the future. The Operators Guide does not show the support for WXGA as is displayed on the 3M website.
9. The 3M MPRO110 has an impressive form factor being extremely compact and lightweight.
10. Connecting and setting the MPRO110 is not difficult and it is easy to use.
The 3M MPRO110 is an excellent product in concept. It is very evident to anyone attempting to use the unit in its current implementation that there are significant shortcomings for usability. 3M obviously understands the need for a compact portable projector but the execution could have been so much better. With an enhanced engineering effort and greater output capability, a unit like this done right would have taken the projection market by storm. There is a very real and a very large demand for a unit like this that can deliver. 3M in my experience is a quality vendor, however this unit does not live up to the promise of what it should have been. It does have potential and I can only hope that 3M acknowledge its shortcomings by making substantial improvements to the next generation.

High ANSI Lumens - Epson S1+ is 1400
Decent Contrast Ratio - Epson S1+ is 400:1
Low Cost Bulb replacement ($150-$200)
For the cost, there was no other projector on the market that could compete. I did not want the lower end DLP projectors, due to rainbow effects that can happen. I also wanted a projector that would be cost effective after the initial purchase. The S1+ bulbs can be found for $150.00 to $200.00, compared to $350-$400 for competitors. BTW: This unit will be used in a small church for Sunday services and cost was a big factor when investing and researching bulb replacement costs.
How does it work?
We get a great image for our church service with full house lights on, this projector is brilliant. Very, low noise. Most of the time it is used with PowerPoint presentations, but it also does a great job with DVD projection.
Image Size?
This unit projects a BIG image from a short distance, if you need a large picture, but do not have the space...this may be the projector for you.
Quality?
I am really impressed with the fit, finish and quality of the Epson projector and will be purchasing the Powerlite Home 10+ for my home theater.
How does it compare?
I have an Infocus X2 and and NEC VT470 projector and I would take the Epson S1+ over either one of these any day.

Epson EX51 Multimedia Projector Review

(More customer reviews)This is my first projector (to be used mainly for movie viewing at home) and I'm very happy with it. I've had it for 3 days and all I can say is that it's more than enough for a "movie theater experience" for a small apartment. I'm currently using just the white wall in my apartment and I can say that you can do without a projector screen and be wowed with the color and resolution of this projector. The only thing I'm not very happy about is that the volume on this product is subpar (The HDMI connection can only be heard through the projector's speaker). However, volume output can be remedied by connecting your PC or Bluray / DVD unit to an external source (like a 7.1 home theater setup, etc). I have my audio output connected from PC to a nice Logitech PC speakers with subwoofer and the "theater experience" in my living room is more than enough to make me feel like I'm experiencing a genuine movie theater atmosphere (and I don't have to pay for inflated movie ticket, popcorn / candy prices!)
UPDATE: (JUNE 12, 2010) I bought an Epson Duet 80" inch projector screen and the picture is much, much better now!
