(More customer reviews)I chose this theater system to go with my new 50" HD plasma TV because it has the HDMI output and the upconverting function. The picture quality is quite good; many of my DVD's look noticeably better than on the Sony DVD player it replaced (it is not a huge difference but you can see it). Although the HDMI output looks the same as the composite output, it does free up your TV's composite outputs for other things such as an Xbox. The sound quality is also good (for the price), and having both the DVD player and audio system in one unit is less clutter. There are however two things about the system that could be improved. First, the loading/unloading of DVD's and changing between DVD's is very, very slow. Much slower, for example, than a typical car CD changer. Second, the remote control that comes with the unit is not particularly well designed. It works fine, but the buttons are not organized in an intuitive order and it is cluttered. You have to look at the remote each time to make sure you are pushing the right buttons, even when using just the play, stop or skip buttons, because they are the same size as all the other buttons on the remote. Most of my other components are Sony and their remotes are much better designed. Overall I am happy with the purchase and would recommend it.
