(More customer reviews)This past Thanksgiving, after much prayer, and begging to my wife I was finally able to complete my home theater. I have had the opportunity to try out many projectors through the years, always hoping one day I would find the perfect one: Good Contrast and resolution with multi-capabilities such as computer, s-video, all the way down to RCA plug-ins. Also it had to have huge "bang-for-the-buck" factors. I am not disappointed!
This Projector by NEC was surprising in many ways. They packed it with a cool, very simplified, remote. Plus, they threw in an extra computer cable so you can plug it right in. Nice.
It is very light at 7lbs and the brightness of the 1500 ansi lumens soaks the screen to display vividly sharp details. I have tried out many films so far to test its quality: Fast and the Furious, Nemo, A Bugs life plus others. None had any problems. Computer animated films sparkle on this machine.
There is a fan within the projector to keep down the temp. Most people decide on purchasing depending on the loudness of the fan alone. Gratefully, it is amazingly quiet. Once you turn it off it blows in high gear for about ten seconds then its done.
Here's the catch: You have to want a big picture. The projector does come with an easy zoom function to control picture size, but the kicker is, with it being fifteen feet away from the screen the smallest the image can get is 6ft wide / 5ft tall. Many may worry about dvd artifacting or pixelization at that size, but again, no worries. At 15 feet the image could easily be 10 feet across if I so choose. Nice, once more.
If your deciding on a projector that has vivid color detail and large picture capabilities, even with the lights on, look no further. Like I said, I have tested many through the years, some costing five to ten thousand dollars, you will find very little difference between them and this power packed machine. Hats off to NEC. ~SAOS~

Dell 2300MP Projector with 2300 Lumens, XGA Resolution Review

(More customer reviews)After having access to various projectors through employers for several years, I decided to purchase the 2300MP for both home entertainment and business use. In my current setup, I have the projector connected to a TimeWarner DVR (SA 8300HD). Audio is run from the DVR to a stereo computer speaker and subwoofer system (see review Dell Champagne speakers). It is a quite impressive arrangement. At first glance, many viewers' draws drop when they first see the screen, which is merely projected on a beige painted wall.
With a throw of approximately 11 feet, it creates a screen 7'2" across. The formula for the maximum screen size is: diagonal = 0.618*dist + 0.0192. However, this is somewhat misleading as the distance changes with the incident angle (think Pythagorean Theorem). Yet, if any single characteristic of projectors can be considered a handicap, it would be the limitations imposed by the lens distance to the screen.
Distance also affects brightness as there is less light intensity per square area. However, brightness is not a problem with this projector. One of key selling parameters of DLP projectors is the number of lumens, which describes the total visible light output. Low-end portable projectors are generally under 1000 lumens. At 2300 lumens, this projector is bright enough to hold presentations in a daylight-filled room. In fact, the projector is so bright that I have to navigate through the sluggish management menus to reduce brightness when there are scenes with snow-filled landscapes.
While the projector comes with a remote to operate the management controls, the whole system of operating the projector is a big cumbersome. This problem is compounded when the projector is mounted on the ceiling. In certain instances, it is difficult to determine if the projector is on. The small green status LED's are difficult to see from a distance. As a testament the quietness of the fan, it is barely audible and completely unnoticeable when there is any background noise. Unfortunately, in about one out of 25 times, the projector just doesn't start properly. This sometimes necessitates a hard kill by unplugging the unit. Some of these difficulties may present a difficulty for the non-technical user.
Having a separate tuner (owned and maintained by Time Warner) and projection device is a very, very clean setup. This separation allows for added flexibility as evolving video input options that are separate and distinct from the projection device. Despite the distance limitations, the setup is a great space saver. Moreover, the portability is incredible as it only weighs 4.9 pounds. In my case, the [pre-existing] wall is the viewing surface so there additional hardware such as screen.
Before I purchased this projector, purveyors of competing products warned me about the rainbow effect which appears on certain images when displayed via a DLP projector. The rainbow effect is a strange artifact that only some viewers can see. Basically, prismatic colors form around certain objects with parallel lines such as a pinstripe shirt. In the first couple of weeks I occasionally saw the effect. However, I have not seen it in the past several months. In general, the picture is fantastic. It appears that most anomalies exist in the video source because DVD's appear crisper than recorded DVR movies, which in turn appear better than live broadcast television. With a great picture, portability and tremendous flexibility, the Dell 2300mp represents the future of entertainment.

Sony VPL VW60 - SXRD projector - 1000 ANSI lumens - 1920 x 1080 - widescreen - High Definition 1080p Review

(More customer reviews)This was quite an upgrade for us. We replaced our Optoma HD70 with this projector. I tried the Optoma HD80 first (please read my review of that waste), but the placement limitations were so bad, I had to return it. We purchased this projector from Tweeter (sorry Amazon) for $3900.00.
After installing it last night, I played around with it a bit and fixed some display settings that were way out of control. For more on this and how to adjust your own, look up this projector on the projectorreviews website. Right out of the box the settings are horribly wrong, but with some slight adjustments, you can have a near perfect picture.
The projector itself has a number of great features including a mechanical lens for zoom, focus and vertical shift. Although I gave this projector 5 stars, there is still one area that needs improvement. Some kind of horizontal keystone would be a good thing, but it is such a small issue that it doesn't impact my evaluation.
There are ample inputs, but maybe 1 more HDMI would be great. It has 2, but this input is the way of the world now, and 3 would be better...but then I'd want 4...you get the idea.
The projector weight is 24.5 pounds. You may read different weights on different websites, but I weighed it myself and it is exactly 24.5 lbs. Just make sure you have a mount that is rated for at least 30 pounds that is installed correctly. This does not need to crash down on anyone's head at this weight.
Back to the performance...The colors are amazing one when calibrated correctly. We watched a New York Rangers game on MSGHD as our first test. The Rangers lost, but the projector scored a hat-trick! Blues were correct, white levels are near perfect, and the contrast ratio, thanks to the dynamic iris is stunning. Afterward, we played around with some Blu-Ray and HD-DVD at 1080p. Spiderman, Pirates 3, and Happy feet looked perfect. I can't stress enough that you need to recalibrate this projector to get a good picture. Sony should do a better job on giving you an accurate picture out of the box, but they just don't.
Lastly, the projector is almost perfectly silent. I could hear the PS3 and DirecTV HR20 fan much louder than the projector. Great job on this Sony!!
In closing, I would recommend this projector to anyone looking for a top-of-the-line-$5000-and-less unit. Shop it around though and get a good deal for yourself. Don't pay $5000 because you just don't have to. Enjoy!

The only other ones I could find like it would set me back at least $450. I bought this from a local store online and paid only $312 for it including expediated shipping and taxes. There was only 1 review I could find on this and it was good, just said minimal ripples as one of the only complaints. I pulled this monstrousity out of the box, had a little trouble mounting it, not due to the screen itself, but due to my wall and finding a stud. I just bought replacement stud screws and its hanging just fine. It lowers pretty slow, but that's not a problem but beware, this thing is huge. Much larger than I expected. The viewing size is right around 9 feet by 6 feet and the actual length of the base of the screen is every bit of 116-117 inches long, so keep that into consideration. I have a sony vplaw 15 set about 13 1/2 feet back and it uses up every inch of the screen and it is the most beautiful thing I've ever experienced. I'm very happy with this screen and don't think I could have landed a better deal, just wish it could have been bigger since my projector projects an amazing size from the distance that its set back at.

* it provides a brighter picture than most Home Theatre Projectors at 1200 Lumens
* the picture is very clear
* the colours are accurate and vibrant
* the contrast is average. DLP PJ's like the Infocus X1 have better contrast but u risk seeing rainbow effects with cheap DLP PJ's
* It has a short throw lens so 10 feet gets approx 100 inch diagonal screen so it can suit small rooms down to say 9 x 9 feet
* It doesnt have a genuine zoom feature so placement in a room is limited
* It is SVGA resolution but with the .5 size pixels (instead of .7 on most SVGA PJ's) screen door/pixelation is much reduced. I have it in my 12' by 11' bedroom at a diagonal screen size of approx 95' and it looks supurb.
* Fan sound is about average. It exhausts the air out the front so can be mounted close to a wall
* It doesnt have manual individual colour adjustments. The 5 preset viewing modes will be fine for most, coupled with the ability to adjust contrast/brightness.
* Try to position the PJ at right angles to the screen in order to avoid using keystone correction. The picture looks slightly better if u dont use keystone correction with this PJ.
* The PJ itself is very inexpensive and the replacement lamps are the cheapest i have ever seen. Would be good if the lamp could go more than 2000 hours but since they are so cheap its not so much of an issue.
* Many S1's are sold/have been sold so it should be easy to get replacement items such as lamps in the future.
* Doesnt have a individual component video connection. U have to use the RGB port so if u have a pc u have to share this port. Would have been good to have a seperate component video port.
There are several entry level PJ's which are providing performance at a level previously only found on PJ's much more expensive. At similar to the EPSON S1 price point you could look at Infocus X1, Hitachi CPS210, Sanyo Z1 amongst others.
In Summary Epson S1 - Bright, very clear picture, excellent colours, short throw, cheap globes
Im very happy with the S1. The most important issue above all is the picture and this PJ's picture is crystal clear, bright and vibrant.

Sanyo PLV-1080HD High Definition 1080p LCD Home Theater Projector Review

(More customer reviews)We had been holding off buying a home theater projector since technology was improving and prices were coming down. I revisited the market this fall, doing some extensive research both online and at the local stores. I came across this Sanyo 1080p projector that seemed promising in its initial reviews -- and certainly was an attractive price point at $1,599. We have a large living room (29' by 16') that we intended to maintain as a multi-purpose living room/home theater. The room has one wall that has floor to ceiling glass with vertical blinds, which allows us to darken the room during daylight but certainly not to pure theater levels. For our situation our local retailers were promoting projectors that would cost $5,000 -- to be coupled with sound system, screen and installation that would push the cost to $10,000 or more. After researching the options, we bit the bullet and ordered this Sanyo 1080p projector from Amazon -- figuring it was cheap enough now that if it turned out to be a mistake we would just live with it for a few years until technology improved and prices came down further. In preparation for its arrival, we had our local cable company upgrade our service to digital which gave us access to their HD programming through their set-top box.
I am delighted to report that we could not be more pleased or impressed with this purchase. We had it up and working within 10 minutes of its arrival, using our white wall for our initial screen. I have to tell you that it looked so good that we decided to make the wall our permanent screen. The up-down and left-right lens shifting allowed us to place the projector about anywhere we wanted -- so my son and I designed a permanent installation with a wall mount near the ceiling. We added a $250 Sony "home theater in a box" for sound, concealed the wires, rearranged the living room furniture and have a complete home theater system for less than $2,000.
And the picture quality? Oustanding! We've set the picture size to the maximum for our room, which provides a picture that is over 6' tall with a 13' diagonal picture size. David Letterman is larger than life, and football games allow you to see the blades of grass and faces in the stands even on wide shots. With the 1080p HD, the "screen door" pixels are very sharp and clear at the wall but are virtually invisible when more than 3' away. The picture is as bright and clear as anything we saw in the local retailer home theater demo rooms -- maybe even better. Ambient light is no more of a problem than it would be with any TV in the room, and we find that we are using this as our primary TV. The setup and operating instructions were clear, setup was simple, the on-screen menus are easy to use, we don't hear the fan, and for our purposes, we can't think of a single thing we would change. If we have a concern, it's that we'll use it so much we'll have to buy that replacement lamp a lot sooner than we would like (3,000 hours they estimate) -- but we're beginning to consider that $300 cost a bargain compared to the entertainment value we're getting.

By the time it reached me the box had been retaped and was either a used screen or damaged during shipment. Sent it back and ordered another. Next one delivered with a huge dent in it. UPS determined that the packaging is inadequate. Be warned! -to send it back, UPS wants to charge you half of what the screen costs. If I had to do it over again, I would run from these guys. There's a reason it's so cheap. Screen itself is wavy and does not seem to hang properly. You get what you pay for with this one. Lesson learned.

It's quieter than my Optoma HD65 with a much brighter and vivid picture.
With a little or a lot of patience you can tweak the color and image to what ever floats your boat.
The W1000 has terrific color and depth, along with sharpness I've come to really appreciate. This unit does use a 2 times speed color wheel. Those sensitive to RBE may want to look at the HD20 or Vivitek. A LCD projector could be your best bet if you're very sensitive to RBE. The great thing about amazon is the satisfaction guarantee.
This is a VERY bright projector! At the present time it is the brightest 1080P projector available under 3 grand.
This gives you more leeway for ambient light to be present in the room. You can eat at the dinner table and still enjoy your movie or show without trying to eat in the dark because your image is washed out by the ambient light.
I like the fact this unit has its own speaker. My nephew loves to play Xbox. We just plug the Xbox directly to the projector and off we go! Nothing like playing video games on a large screen. The speaker is plenty loud enough without disturbing others in the home.
I've spent many hours tweaking and calibrating the picture. Here's a few settings that may or may not help you.
I've found it to give me the best balance of color, brightness and contrast so far.
These are settings with the projector 14 ft from the screen with lens wide, lamp hrs of 216 and 120 inch Favi matte white high gain screen. Black levels and contrast will deepen as lamp ages. 100 hrs of burn-in will make a difference for the better in skin tones and black levels.

I have been using this projector for over 1/2 a year. I would not hesitate to buy it again.
DO strain relieve your cables to protect the connector board assrmbly.

First, the negatives:
It does not have a 12v screen trigger (important if you have a motor driven screen). Odd ommission.
It is 1600 lumen - the room DOES have to be darkened for good viewing.
Positives over the competition:
30 degree digital keystone correction
Individual horizontal and manual lens offset - can be 100% above or below the scree and also even with the left or right side and still center picture in the frame (that means you do not have to line the projector and screen on centerlines.) Keysone adjustment will allow tweaking. You do need to be level, though, or get a mount that allows horizontal tilt.
Menus are intuative and vast. There is a lot you can do in setting up. Or nothing if you wish.
Remote is simple and works well when you point it at the screen (>30 ft range)
Very consistent screen brightness.
Histogram setup capability (not for the meek...)
QUIET! Cannot overstate this. MY chair is seven feet directly below the projector and you have to strain to hear the fan.
No noticeable ozone production - cheaper, higher wattage can produce noticebale O3 with these strong UV lamps. This unit has a well shielded lamp assembly. Only 160 watts. Uses less enegery than a plasma TV.
Recommendations:
1) USE ONLY CAT 2 CERTIFIED HDMI cable. Do not be fooled by Class 2 - that is an electrical code certification that designates the toxicity of fumes in a fire (a good thing), but has nothin to do with performance. CAT 2 is certifed for 340 mhz and can carry a signal 50ft. Otherwise use a repeater.
2) Don't buy a spare a bulb. Wait until you really need to (ie when it stsrts ahowing degradation at 1800 - 2000 hours.) An OEM bulb from a dealer is warranted for 30-90 days after purchase, not service. These things do have an infant mortality of a couple of percent. You may be buying a $350 lamp that fails in 20 hours and you cannot get warranty, because it's been sitting on a shelf for two years.
3) mount to joists or a stringer board affixed to adjacent joist. This thing is heavy.
4) get the Peerless mount sold here on Amazon - amazingly good mount! If you need extension get a 1 1/2 to 1 1/4 pipe adapter a 1 1/4 floor flange and som e 1 1/14 pipe, paint it and hange it - a lot cheaper and heavier duty that the Peerless accessory. (More customer reviews)After battling with a 120-inch tripod screen, my family decided to give this EZ Cinema screen a try. Let's just say the tripod battles are over! We do plan to move things around our family room in the future, so we definitely wanted a portable-style screen in the first place.
We simply can't say enough about this item - the screen set-up time is right around 30 seconds flat. Seriously. The black "bottom" is made of very sturdy aluminum-type material, and we simply leave the "bar" sitting on the floor at all times. The two little "feet" swing out for more support, four suitcase-style snaps are opened, two support bars are easily inserted into the back base area, and you pull the screen up. That's all there is to it! Now we have awesome 150-inch images in our family room with ultimate ease.
Though made by the same company, we think this 150-inch screen has a better image than the tripod one did. HD is amazing, but even SD images or DVDs from our projector are breathtaking. Couple that with the ultra-easy set-up (and take-down), and we're happy campers! Bravo, Elite Screens!
P.S. Just keep in mind the measurements for this item - it's a LOOOOOOONG piece of equipment! We actually brought it in through a family room window, as it was far too long for swinging around doorways and such in our house.

I've had the chance to use my 6100 now for a few weeks, and it definitely doesn't disappoint. Image quality is fantastic, and the colors are great too (when configured correctly). I've been using mine with the HDMI output of a Harman Kardon AVR-254 7x50W 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver with HDMI 1.3a Repeater.
Pros:
* This sucker is BRIGHT. I am amazed at how nice it looks even with ambient light.

Being the first 1080p projector under $3000, the Epson Home Cinema 1080 arrived with a lot of hype and anticipation. I bought into that hype, and as a result I was among the first to pick up one of these bad boys the day it came out. Prior to the Epson, I had owned two different 720p HD projectors- a Sanyo Z4 and a Panasonic AX-100U. The Sanyo produced a super-sharp, noise-free picture, but I found the visible pixelation too distracting at close viewing distances. The Panasonic doesn't have that problem as it utilizes Smoothscreen technology to reduce screen-door effect, but it also results in a noticeably softer image. The Epson, on the other hand, is capable of projecting a sharp AND pixel-free image (both undoubtedly thanks to the 2 million pixels afforded by 1080p). The Epson also performs surprisingly well out the box, and after a simple calibration I found that it can deliver even more vivid and accurate color. Black level is the one area where I feel this projector is lacking. For deep, DLP-like blacks you would have to shell out another grand or two for a higher-end model like the JVC RS-1. What I did though was paint my own screen, using a special DIY mix designed to boost contrast and improve black level performance, and voila! I'm looking at a beautiful picture with much darker and convincing blacks. Summing up, the Epson is a killer deal, and for under $3000 I honestly couldn't be happier. If you haven't experienced HD front-projection before, I would advise you to go with a 720p model first as prices are tumbling and you can pick up a pretty decent model for around $1000. If you're looking to jump from 720p to the next level, and you watch a lot of HD DVD, Blu-ray, or other high-res HD material, then this is the projector for you. Highly recommended!

(More customer reviews)This technically is my third projector so I am experienced in projectors. My InFocus Screenplay 4805 had reached 3000 hours and the lamp burned out. I was ready to upgrade. At first I bought the Sanyo PLV-1080HD as an open box buy. When I got it home, to my dismay there was over 700 hours on it! BUMMER!! Since I had 30 days to return it, the salesman told me new projectors were on the way and to hold tight. (I would never buy a demo projector again!)
Well two weeks later I saw the Epson in the store. Since I had the Sanyo for 2 weeks, I had something to compare it to. The blacks are twice as good. It is super bright. The colors POP like an LCD TV. Basically it turned my white screen at home into the world largest flat panel. They had a gray screen at the store and the whites were still plenty bright. The screen at the store had glass particles that showed up and were distracting during the movie, so I won't be purchasing a glass particled screen.
Both projectors were much better at my home. The demo room has too much light near the screen. At home, I was a little alarmed by the Epson 8100's oversaturated color right out of the box. The Sanyo was pretty good right out of the box, but the Epson demands adjustment. On HDTV (Cox) most of the people were overly reddish. One of the preset modes for HDTV removed too much color.
I found a review of the projector that included calibration configurations and that made a WORLD of difference. That's when it started to shine even on ECO mode! (I think it could beat Sanyo PLV-1080HD's brightest mode on ECO mode!) I am so excited to have purchased this brand new. I find it a definite upgrade to be able to go 4000 hours on a bulb and only pay $300 for a replacement versus Sanyo's approximate 2000 hours and $400 for a replacement.
Blu-rays were awesome on the Epson 8100. Razor sharp. Even up close to the screen, you can hardly see the porch screen. The contrasts and shadow details were notable.
There are plenty of parameters to adjust this projector. With the warranty, lamp life, and awesome picture. I will definitely be pleased for a long time.
Some reviews went back and forth about organic versus inorganic panels and guess about what kind of panels this projector is made of. The two year warranty give me peace of mind that if the panels go bad, I will get it fixed.
I have used a projector since 2005 and I have used it for TV, movies and some computer use. I do cut it off if I'm not watching but I have fallen asleep a few times. It's on most of Saturday and Sunday. Still in 4 years, I only used the In Focus for 3000 hours.
I had considered having a LCD TV in addition so I could save the bulb, but I can buy a lot of bulbs for that cost and even a 52" TV seems tiny after being accustomed to a 92" screen.I was watching Larry King and the wall behind him was true black. The color was awesome. CNN shines! Sports look GREAT. (Sports were dim on the Sanyo PLV-1080HD.)
My projector is at least 20 feet away and giving off plenty of light even with my lights on. According to one of the reviews, the light is considerably cut when you have it too far away. I have it at the longest distance where you can have it 100" and using ECO lamp with the light off and it's plenty bright.
I have it on a shelf in the back of the room so I can still enjoy my ceiling fan in the summer. The exhaust vent on the front is a life saver on this unit. The Sanyo was blowing hot air and some bright light out the side of their projector. The Sanyo did have a door to hide the lens but Epson has a lens cover. Since I can easily reach the lens, I'll just put the cover on, when I'm finished. I may even purchase a full projector cover for when it's not in use to cut down on dust.
There were overwhelming positive reviews for the Sanyo, but this Epson will blow it away. Even the exterior design in a little more sexy in pearl white and a little bit more stream lined and less boxy.
Finally, don't pay full price as it's a buyer's market. I got an awesome price at a major retailer and for 0% financing, so get yours today! Get this projector!
