(More customer reviews)Everyone that sees the picture this projector gives wants one. You'd expect to pay much more for this quality. The picture still looks great with the lights on and blinds open. Given the adjustability of the projector and the abilty to handle ambient light, this will work in a lot of homes other projectors might not be right for. And it looks great even on an inexpensive screen (Da-Lite HD Model B).
The only negative thing is I know about right now is that with all projectors including the new dlp rear projector tvs is that the bulb has to be replaced every 2000 or so hours and they cost over $300 to replace. I just got my projector, so I don't know if the bulb will last its advertised lenght.
I'd be surprised if you weren't wowed by this projector.
UPDATE:
I have had problems with this projector. Already on my second one and am getting ready to send it away for more work.
Seems to be a reliability problem. The projector shuts off automatically after I turn it on..forcing me to wait 5 minutes to turn it back on. Also, and much worse, the projected image is starting to go blank every 5 minutes and the imput options appear..very annoying and you may miss key parts of whatewver you are watching.
Now, still under warranty, Panasonic is making me pay to ship the unit to Kansas(I'm in California) where they will work on it and say they will have it back to me in 7-10 days.
If you still want to buy this after reading this, make sure you get a good warranty.
My rating now would be much lower than 5 stars if Amazon would let me change it(they won't)
Second Update: Well my Iris has broken again! And now it is out of warranty! This is the third time I have had to return this product for repair! I think there should be a class action suit against these guys for not recalling a product that almost everyone is reporting problems with...will never buy a Panasonic product again.

* it provides a brighter picture than most Home Theatre Projectors at 1200 Lumens
* the picture is very clear
* the colours are accurate and vibrant
* the contrast is average. DLP PJ's like the Infocus X1 have better contrast but u risk seeing rainbow effects with cheap DLP PJ's
* It has a short throw lens so 10 feet gets approx 100 inch diagonal screen so it can suit small rooms down to say 9 x 9 feet
* It doesnt have a genuine zoom feature so placement in a room is limited
* It is SVGA resolution but with the .5 size pixels (instead of .7 on most SVGA PJ's) screen door/pixelation is much reduced. I have it in my 12' by 11' bedroom at a diagonal screen size of approx 95' and it looks supurb.
* Fan sound is about average. It exhausts the air out the front so can be mounted close to a wall
* It doesnt have manual individual colour adjustments. The 5 preset viewing modes will be fine for most, coupled with the ability to adjust contrast/brightness.
* Try to position the PJ at right angles to the screen in order to avoid using keystone correction. The picture looks slightly better if u dont use keystone correction with this PJ.
* The PJ itself is very inexpensive and the replacement lamps are the cheapest i have ever seen. Would be good if the lamp could go more than 2000 hours but since they are so cheap its not so much of an issue.
* Many S1's are sold/have been sold so it should be easy to get replacement items such as lamps in the future.
* Doesnt have a individual component video connection. U have to use the RGB port so if u have a pc u have to share this port. Would have been good to have a seperate component video port.
There are several entry level PJ's which are providing performance at a level previously only found on PJ's much more expensive. At similar to the EPSON S1 price point you could look at Infocus X1, Hitachi CPS210, Sanyo Z1 amongst others.
In Summary Epson S1 - Bright, very clear picture, excellent colours, short throw, cheap globes
Im very happy with the S1. The most important issue above all is the picture and this PJ's picture is crystal clear, bright and vibrant.

Sony VPL-VW50 SXRD 1080p Home Theater Front Projector Review

(More customer reviews)I got this projector to replace a Sony Cineza VPL-10 (I think it was designated), which was a superb machine for the price but had a serious annoyance - a noticeable screendoor effect when the camera panned across a homogeneous field (such as sky). Of course, I sit close to the screen, so this probably didn't bother everyone. The picture quality of this projector is astonishing. There is no screen door effect, even sitting 6 or 7 feet from the screen. You almost have to put your nose to the screen to even see the pixels. The contrast is much deeper; even very dark scenes are full of detail, and I have a window in my theater. The projector is indeed extremely quiet, compared to any other I've heard. I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it highly. The only downside, I think, is that Sony has retained a rather poor remote, although they now provide an intelligent scanner of input signals so you don't have to cycle through everything (thank you!). There are also some lines above or below SD programming from DirecTV, but only on a few channels. I don't know if overscan controls will eliminate that (I haven't tried because I don't watch channels with bugs anyway).

BenQ Joybee GP1 Mini-LED DLP Projector Review

(More customer reviews)I'm very satisfied with this projector. I set it up in my bedroom with a portable projector screen (60" wide) and fed it 720P and 1080i inputs thru the component outputs of my HD satellite receiver and DVD player,(Toshiba XD-E500, available on Amazon, DVD upscaled to both 720P/1080i)to the VGA connector on the projector and it performed admirably. I moved the projector back to fill the entire screen width (60") with a 16X9 picture and the clarity/sharpness when receiving 720P/1080i signalling was better than I expected. The picture with a dimly lit room was very watchable and with the room darkened was outstanding. The colors were bright and vivid and the brightness/contrast were excellent. I used a RCA component male x 3 to VGA female adapter cable, 1 ft. long,(vendor description-HD15 VGA female to RCA x 3 male double shielded, HD15 to component video, available from Wholesale Cables on Amazon), that mated to the projector's VGA male connector plus a 12 ft. component cable that mated with the adapter's 3 male RCA's thru 3 RCA female to female barrel connectors. I also used a video switching box for the video, 4 inputs/1 output, and audio switching box, 4 inputs/1 output for the L/R stereo audio (available from Radio Shack) so I wouldn't have to keep unplugging/plugging cables all the time. I connected the L/R stereo audio switcing box output to my video/Aux audio inputs on my Aiwa home stereo/CD unit. Setup was very easy as the projector has auto-keystone adjusting feature. The projector has pre-programmed selections for movies/photos/pc/brightest/user. The user setting allows the user to set their own desired picture settings as they wish. The projector distance from the screen to fill the 60" width of the screen was about 9 ft. Although the projector has a tripod mounting hole, I used a music stand available from any music store and velcro'd the projector to the music stand. The music stand is adjustable in all three dimensions, pitch/yaw/height with locking adjusters when you get it where you want it to stay. This setup sure meets my needs/requirements completely and no lamps to replace periodically on the projector (it uses LED's). I was concerned about the 100 lumen output of the projector prior to getting it home and trying it out, but my concerns were relieved when I set it up and actually saw the picture for myself. It's not washed out or too weak to watch. I was extremely pleased with the video quality of the projector. I watched a MLB baseball game on it and fast moving objects (the ball,runners) were not blurred at all. I'm satisfied. One note: the projector pictured on Amazon doesn't look like the present BenQ Joybee GP1 model that I have. Mine is white with a black top and is almost square. Perhaps the version shown on Amazon is an earlier or another version of the product.

The wall is flat white paint and I didn't want to hang a screen being in apartment and the picture looks great. It's brand new so I hope it will do well in the long run but for now I would recommend it.

Optoma HD80 1080p Home Theater Projector Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this projector to replace my Optoma HD70. I have a room in my house as a designated theater with the screen, chairs, sound, lighting..you name it. I thought this would be an easy install. I was so wrong! Here is the problem...Unless you have the space to mount the projector around 2 feet above or two feet below the top/bottom of the screen, this projector is totally useless! You can't mount it at screen height or even just slightly above/below. To read about this, go to the "projectorreviews" website. I wish I had read this ahead of time. I figured that since the throw ratio was correct for my room, I was all set. Not so...
Optoma seems to have made an excellent projector for the price based on image quality, color and inputs. But, don't make my mistake, do your research and make sure you have the clearances in your room to install this projector in the few places that it can be placed. As a side note (no pun intended), you need to be dead on straight with the screen because there is no horizontal keystoning at all. This wasn't a problem for me, but it will be for some people.
In the end, I would say this: The projector seems very good for the money, but since 75% of the potential buyers for this product will be sliced away because of placement issues, I would stay away from this one. If for no other reason than you may not be able to resell it after you want to upgrade. Remember, placement will be a problem then too! There are many other projectors that do not suffer from this that are in the same price range. I like Optoma for budget-minded home theater enthusients, but this one is off the mark for the average home.
PS - My local Best Buy store has this mounted in their Magnolia Home Theater Center. It doesn't work in there either. They can't hit the screen correctly because the screen is not low enough. If it is in mine, it might be in your's too, so go take a look.

Sharper Image Wonderwall Entertainment Projector Review

(More customer reviews)As I chose to pick up this unit at Kohl's, I did so confident that no matter how low my expectations, this would probably disappoint me. Upon reading the limited reviews and board comments, I was convinced it would be bad. Therefore, I started testing the projector as soon as I brought it home. To my pleasant surprise, this device was actually really good.
First off, sound. The sound is actually pretty good. It does a mono sound, but at full volume, it was ok in a quite room. The sound could be heard clearly from another room. I could see it failing in a loud or crowded room, however it comes with a headphone jack. You can also plug certain external powered speakers into this jack to supplement the sound if you feel the need to.
Now more importantly, the video. I tested the video with two movies on my standard DVD player. In order to see the projector at it's best, I tested it on the simpsons, a high bright picture with low detail. It functioned splendidly. I shot the picture at close range (about three feet) to produce a 27'' TV equivalent. Then I shot it across the room, about 10 feet, and received about a 130 inch TV equivalent. The image was shot on a white wall for the three foot, and white drawn curtains for the 10 foot. I also ran it both with and without the lights on in the room. At three feet, the light on did very little to effect the image. At 10 feet, the image suffered substantially(grew paler), but seeing as how this is 4 feet and 60 inches bigger than even they recommend, I am still impressed. I have not tested this product during the day as of yet.
The simpsons was clear and crisp at both distances. It did have some blurring, which seemed to appear and go away, and was mot prevalent at the center of the screen. As another reviewer mentioned, the screen has crisscrosses on it, which is unavoidable. Anyone who has dealt with a slight amount of snow when watching TV has faced worse. The "crisscross" is simply dark lines that appear in a crisscross pattern across the image, which is a result of the low resolution of the screen. The larger the image, the larger the dark lines. I can't say it bothers me, it is solidly there and unchanging, and doesn't effect the picture (except perhaps making the image appear darker). And depending on the angle and distance you watch from, you can't even see the crisscrosses
The second movie I tested was Final Fantasy, spirit within, a detail orientated dark movie. I could say it was watchable at the 10 foot distance. The darks and lights didn't show very well, and significant detail is lost. At three feet, their was still a lot of lost detail, but the dark scenes show up a lot more clearly.
All in all, the projector works great. It has a moderately loud fan, but the sound more than makes up for it. It is a $100 projector, and everyone who gets it needs to keep that in mind. The bottom line is that if you are looking for an HDTV or hi res experience, this is not for you. If you are looking for a replacement living room TV, this is probably not for you. If you are looking for some portable tv replacement, or something that lets you watch tv on the ceiling or some other wierd area of your house at the drop of a dime. This would be great. This is great for snuggling up at night with some popcorn in a movie theater experience, or even outdoors in the backyard watching your favorite romantic comedy or something like that.
Simply put, know what you are getting, it works, as a toy. Like it says on its box, it is typically for video games (high contrast, low detail, bright colors), and thus works well for them. It is more than I expected, and in my opinion, well worth the money. And when the next level of projector is 6 times the price of this one, this is the closest any of us low income guys are going to get to owning our own projector to play with.
Update:
Please note that I did NOT review a sharper image wonderwall projector. It shows the same picture... It is NOT worth the price tag of $300 some dollars I see, I got it for less than $100, which is why my review was geared as such. I am not sure if amazon has messed up, or if the product got bought out by sharper image, but you could buy a high quality "real" projector for that price.

Samsung P400 DLP Lumen Pocket Ultraportable Projector (1.9 Pounds) Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this as I often give presentations to small groups and wanted a "portable TV" when traveling. I was torn between this and the Dell M109S. I did a ton of research on both items and bought the Samsung in the end, even though it was $200 more. The Samsung is MUCH brighter, has sound, and can be bought from Amazon with its better customer service than Dell.
I used it to watch an entire movie with a group and they loved it. We projected it onto just the plain wall and the brightness was just fine with a lamp light turned on nearby. You won't be able to use it during broad daylight for a movie (presentation perhaps).
The thing I love about it is that it's on full brightness all the time! My friend bought a $1500 projector a while ago and he's always concerned about bulb time, the brightness level, etc. I don't have to worry about any of it. It's so refreshing to have a projector where you don't have to worry at all about conserving the bulb. It's a HUGE stress reliever. That's what you want in a portable projector, one that you can just pack and go and not worry about everytime you use. The bulb will last the lifetime of the projector.
Yeah, the 800*600 resolution isn't HD, but it's ok. It's good enough for presentations and movies. You're never going to use HD for presentations - putting up tons of text onto a screen will drive the audience crazy!
I carry the projector in my laptop bag with all its accessories. So in on medium size bag, I have my Dell M1210, the Samsung P400, and all the necessary wires and power. It's great!
The only negatives are that the power brick is huge! It's about 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the projector. The second negative is the sound. I read reviews that the sound was decent, but it's only decent for presentations. But for movies, it's not the best... having a portable speaker would greatly help. I have the Logitech MM portable speaker which is great and tiny.
And oh! One huge thing that I hadn't read is that the Samsung has a tripod mound. The Dell does NOT. Because these projectors are so small, using a tripod greatly stabilizies the projector.

The Ultra-portable InFocus LP70+ is less than $1900. It boasts 1,400 lumens, 4,000 hour lamp, VGA (1024 x 768) resolution, 2.4 lbs, 2.58 x 6.1 x 7.8 (90% of the size of a cigar box), keystone correction of 15 degrees, 22.2' max image size, 1 watt built-in speaker, 120-240 volts, 1100:1 contrast and a 2 year warranty.
When ordered through Amazon.com/JR Music World, there is a $50 discount and no sales tax (outside of NY) for a savings of nearly $200. Total price before shipping: $1,873.33.
InFocus and other manufacturers have other even smaller models but they are not as bright. The LP 70+ provide the most bang for the buck. You can find less-expensive projectors ($799, $899) but they will be SVGA (800 x 600) resolution (fuzzy).
Many hotels charge $500/day for LCD projectors. Meeting planners will love to hear you can supply your own projection equipment.
I have used a Proxima x350 for the past three years. It is a great projector but the LP 70+ is much brighter and much smaller. I use my projector four to five times a week; I fly 4,000 miles/week. Weight and volume are major issues. The LP 70+ is more than a pound lighter and significantly smaller. Whether you are designing parachutes or carrying luggage, weight and volume are of great concern. Search for the smallest and lightest equipment.
I love the LP 70+; you will too.

I wanted this unit as this is the only product I have found in this price range that uses DCDi by Faroudja. Considering this technology used "to cost alot of money" this is an incredible bargain. Basically, it smoothes the jiggles of still AND moving images. We do a lot of process control work and use a lot of animation. This solves a common problem in many LCD and DLP projectors, and seems to make non-native resolution use much better (the LP500 is SVGA native resolution). It appears this model was a carryover from Boxlight before they were bought out by InFocus, and used an exclusive contract with Faroudja, who has also been bought out twice, but the model retains this critical technology that still leads the industry. The "money" more we spent on this vs. the LP280 was worth it for this feature alone.
This unit has a dual voltage/lumen feature that increases bulb life and reduces heat. (A big plus as changing bulbs on these puppies is a royal-and time consuming-pain.) This lower setting also increases contrast for blacks, which is helpful for theater use.
The unit comes with GOOD MANUALS! A lot of the time you have to sort of read the manual and intuit what the heck they are trying to say. That's not the case here. The manuals are clear, concise and complete!
This is a far superior unit stylistically-very modern and attractive, unlike the LP280 which, though a modern device, nevertheless always seems to project a 1950's feel sitting there in the middle of a meeting.
On the downside, the input are basic but adequate. The remote is just OK-it's small and clumsy to use in dark room situations, but once you get acclimated to it it's passable. The bulb's difficult to replace and-as usual with these things-relatively expensive. However, the aforementioned dual voltage/lumen feature should reduce the frequency changes overall.
I can't attest to this unit's traveling characteristics since it hasn't moved from the center of our conference table since it was unpacked. However, the case and accessories seems sturdy and well designed. Our LP280 does well and I'd imagine this one would as well.
The accessory package is fairly complete. There are some adaptors for more varied inputs available as well as other accessories, but we see no real need for them. My experience has been these things cost more than the value they add.
An excellent unit, especially if your presentation requirement border on "theatre" type conditions. A lot of value for the money with this puppy!

That includes equipment to show films and images and to play reasonable quality recorded music, as well as to lecture. The LG HS201 is ideal for my purposes. With 200 lumens it is the first LED projector that I have seen that is sufficiently bright and that has a usable built-in stereo sound system, although I do augment its meager 2 watts with external speakers. The USB port facilitates set-up and frees me from a tangle of cables, as I can easily put a couple of slightly compressed movies, an hour of MP3 classical music, and nearly 100 JPEG images onto an 8GB flash drive. The fan noise is barely audible--an estimated 29 DB--and at under 2 lbs. the projector is truly portable.
Most of its purported shortcomings are no more than compromises necessary to bring a lamp-free projector to market at a $500 price. For that figure, one should not expect a zoom lens, a tilt adjustment, or anything like a theater sound system. Incidentally, only the HS 200G and HS201G, neither of which is currently marketed in the USA, offer a standard carrying bag, and just the HS200 series, also not yet sold here, includes an FM audio transmitter. However, there is one LG HS201 defect that can and should be remedied at the earliest opportunity. The owner's manual is written in the unidiomatic English of a non-native speaker, and some of the manual's technical writing defies comprehension. A newly edited version would be helpful.
If you are interested in buying the LG HS201, I would suggest four accessories at first: (a) a USB flash drive of 8 or 16GB; (b) a lightweight tripod, rated at over 6 lbs; (c) a pair of small speakers; and (d) a carrying bag. With these, you should be good to go!

(More customer reviews)This is really an impressive little gadget. Quite easy to use, just plug it in to charge, turn it on and attach a device. I attached my iPhone and watched videos through iTunes and YouTube quite easily. On a wall, on a ceiling. There really needs to be very little ambient lighting though. But when it's dark, really a pretty sharp picture for the size of the thing and its resolution. And I was especially impressed by the sound given the tiny size of the speaker.
My only complaint is a lack of documentation. The box came with a "quick start guide" which told you very little beyond how to charge it and a couple of other notes and one "sample" configuration. That's it, and there doesn't seem to be any more documentation online. But given how relatively easy to use it is, this is a minor quibble.

(More customer reviews)I liked the price of course and I was attracted to the LED feature with it's lower power consumption, quiet opperation and long bulb life. The Problem are that this unit is so stripped down in regards to features you wonte be able to use it with very much versatility. I bought one specifically to hook up to a laptop and project the computer image.............Nope. It don't do that. I did hook up an old VCR just to make sure it worked. It does work but not very well. Picture quality is dull and not very vivid at all. There is also an annoying pattern that is visable and reminds me of the dot pattern you see when you look at a magazine photo through a magnifying glass. I desperatly want to brighten up the picture but there is no control for that. All and all I think I can say that I don't think I'll get much use out of this unit. The concept is good but that's about as far as it goes. The picture is simply not clean enough for anyone who is trying to duplicate a television quality image in a larger version........ How do I send this thing back?

(More customer reviews)Bought this as a gift to be given for occasional use in a camper. After pre-testing, I'm happy with the performance. Elsewhere on the interweb the resolution is incorrectly given as 940 x 240; the 940 value must have been combined from 3 LCDs. After couting pixels I'm sure resolution is very close to 320x240 which represents a loss in quality from VHS tape video. The fan is noisier than newer full sized projectors.
PROS:
*Bulbs are CHEAP, the MR-16 12v 35w halogen can be had for less than ten bucks :)
*Adujstments of brightness, contrast, hue, and color are adequate.
*Light, durable, compact, and attactively shaped.
*Price of one hundred fifty seemed reasonable.
*Will work nicely from 12v power source directly without using included AC adapter, draws 5 amps at 12v.
*Bright enough for projecting a small image during the day, and a huge image at night.
*Includes a stand to point it straight up for ceiling viewing, and an RCA patch cable.
*Speaker volume goes pretty loud.
CONS:
*Low resolution (320x240) will only be acceptable for low-tech uses.
*Newer, better, cheaper projectors should be available soon.
*Audio inputs are stero, but output from speaker is mono.
*No keystone adjustment means the angle of projection needs to be setup carefully.
*Fan is cheap and noisy, but looks like there's lots of space to replace it with two quiet fans. One in original location, the second could go behind the grill on the opposite side.
There are some interesting LED replacement versions of this projector's bulb on e bay which produce very litle heat. I'm going to try one & then disable the fan for silence and a big reduction in power consumption.

It was purchased to watch movies and play video games on my ceiling at night and it serves this purpose in a satisfactory manner. The poor contrast and low quality resolution can make dark video games more challenging, but overall, it produces a fairly impressive image for the price. This is not meant to compete with high-end projectors, but then again, you do find it in the toy department for a reason.
Pros: Portable, reasonably sturdy, great price.
Cons: Low resolution, poor contrast, LED lamp requires near total darkness, patches of image are tinted red or green.
