(More customer reviews)This is the third sub I've owned, but the first Velodyne. It was purchased to enhance a new speaker system for the surround-sound in the living room...which is 18' X 16' with 18' ceilings. It's a big, open room that opens to a kitchen on the side. The previous speakers were DefTec 7002's with the build-in subs, and it never sounded right in the living room -- horrible bass, poor dialoge, etc. Not the case here at all. The sub setup was super easy. Immediately the entire system sounded better than the others I've had, and provided focus, "thump", and low-end effects that I've missed in other movies. I popped in the new Star Trek on Blu-Ray and, pardon the pun, was immediately transported into the movie and off the sofa because of the better sound-intro, explosions, and the like. My wife noticed it as well and remarked that it was like "seeing a movie for the first time".
Music was equally good, and since the sub has separate settings for listening types (as well as 90 degree phase adjustments) it was really easy to get fantastic low-end sound on different songs and music types --- she likes country, me not so much. Rock, some jazz. It all sounded great. Authoritative. Like it was easy to go low and not muddy the sound. Since a sub that big can punch you in the chest if you let it we found ourselves turning the volume down a bit and adjusting the crossover so it didn't become too much. Great buy for the money. Great sub.
